Info Session - Experience Design Certificate Program
Join Odyssey Works co-director for an introduction and Q&A for the Experience Design Certificate Program.
In this brief info session, the Odyssey Works co-director will introduce the Experience Design Certificate Program and answer questions you might have about it. They will discuss the cadence of the year, the portfolio material you will produce, and the application process. They will also discuss the two BIPOC scholarships and the work-study positions. Most of the time will be allotted to questions from attendees.
Designing with Diagrams
The Diagram is the crown jewel of visual thinking. As a communication tool, it allows audiences to quickly and directly understand complicated relationships. As a design tool, it allows practitioners to understand the bigger picture as they dive into the details.
2024 Odyssey Works Family Reunion
The Odyssey Works Family Reunion is a weekend of magical cross-pollination for our community on an island in Connecticut. Over the weekend we share projects, skills, dreams, and good-old fashioned dinner conversation. We’ll have three full days together for skillshares, getting feedback on projects in progress, play-tests, and relaxed fireside chats. Think grilling together and plenty of dips in the lake with a braintrust of good people to talk about things that matter.
This is a community-driven event, designed for you to connect with folks from across our programming and think together in new ways.

Dive deep into the complete curriculum of Odyssey Works' intimate and inspiring process on how to create transformative experiences. This class combines the content of our core offerings of empathy & experience design, diagramming, and making meaning workshops, into one intensive that radically changes the way you think about making anything you make.
On day 1 we will learn the basics of experience design. On day 2 we will create a powerful experience for one other attendee in the class. The weekend will be intense, perspective-altering, deeply personal, and lots of fun.

Experience Design Salon
In recent years, the term experience design has been finding its way into the conversations of designers and artists and makers in an unexpected array of disciplines. Urban adventure groups and gamers are creating lush narratives for both online and real world participation. Think tanks, worldbuilding exercises, and so much more rely on a practice of experience design to engage with the future.
So it is perfect timing for the release of Abraham Burickson's second book, Experience Design, a Participatory Manifesto.
Please join us for a unique afternoon at the Paper Moon in Oakland, CA on Saturday, January 20th to welcome Abe back to the Bay Area!
Between 5:30 - 7:30 guests will have a special opportunity to witness and interact with experiences by Emily Hostutler, Krishnan Unnikrishnan, and others installed at Paper Moon by other celebrated practitioners in this growing field.
Community Gathering (NYC)
Come join us Sunday from 2-4. Please be prepared to share about your work, your interests, your collaborative needs. Light snacks will be provided, but feel free to bring your own to share.Open to anyone who has attended anything Odyssey Works has offered, online or IRL.
Over the past seven years, the Odyssey Works community has grown significantly. We are artists and designers and makers and community builders across a wide range of disciplines brought together by a common interest in utilizing the tools of experience design to make work that is new, meaningful, transformative.
For the past couple of years we have held Family Gatherings where community members from around the world came together to meet, share what they were working on, make connections, have fun. The family reunion is a community-driven event. Collaborations and friendships have been formed there, and there has been a call for local gatherings to continue this in New York and Northern California. This invitation is the response.
Event is hosted by Prime Produce, a grassroots, cooperatively-run member space, and a place where friends, family, and neighbors cultivate the craft of community service. Event is free, but you may purchase books and support Prime Produce with a donation at eventbrite registration
